Gamerisms: [TW for discussion of rape] "Rape" usage in games

thetaylordetroye:

wherewordsfail-music-speaks:

gamerisms:

“Oh man, I totally raped that noob!”

“We totally raped that boss, man!”

The word “rape” has become a part of gaming culture, and most noticeably online gaming. People use it in such ways as describing other gamers they’ve defeated in Call of Duty and bosses they’ve beaten in MMORPGs such as…

if im honest the word rape used for describing the way you absolutely destroyed a guys face off is ok imho BUT making rape jokes ? Thats pretty unacceptable i think you need to lighten up a bit when it comes to, basicly a slang term

Yeah, I’m not sure whether you read the actual post or not, but I address everything you talk about in it.

Because telling me that I need to “lighten up” about a “slang term” is, like I said in the post, trivializing the experiences of my friends who have actually been raped.

i do see where you are coming from and i do agree to a certain extent but however slang is a thing thats used in everyday life .. if you start to hate slang terms then you are going to have a pretty hard time

Just take it with a pinch of salt its not worth getting irate about somthing you cannot change
